[HSF] how others will see us

Hal,
For a moment there I thought that you said "along the same lies".
I don't think you should get off that easily. I quoted a paper that reviewed 41 RCTs that showed that there was less stroke off pump than on pump. I SHOWED YOU A PAPER SO EITHER DO OFF PUMP OR STOP ASKING FOR EVIDENCE!
To paraphrase Richard Feynman who was talking about energy: Evidence is a very subtle subject. (Those that haven't read Feynman, an eccentric physicist, I recommend "Surely you are kidding Mr. Feynman!")
Don't take this criticism personally, Hal. This problem with evidence has been going on for a long, long time.
To whit:
John Hunter's epitaph declared him "Founder of Scientific Surgery" given by the Royal College of Surgeons in 1859. However, Hunter died in 1793 and the Chamber of Surgeons, which changed its name in 1830's to the Royal College of Surgeons, had almost nothing to do with and were contentious to John Hunter during his life (and especially visa versa). In 1860's, Claude Bernard was the Father of experimental medicine, but The Flexner Report 1920's in the US changed the structure of medical training and led to the term "resident". Even now we are in the Age of EBM as medical authorities try to reassert their control over us "waywards" who eschew the now evident "evidence" such as smoking cessation counseling and universal protocols for the "singular" diagnosis of CHF. Yes, Hal, evidence is a very subtle subject. I have some thoughts on the "scientific" basis of this conundrum, but I am running out of paragraphs and can feel the "deletes" coming.
(Is this another "rant", Bill?)
The problem is I have been reading again, and, as all can tell from the details of which I would otherwise be totally ignorant, it is not good. I function much better, as seemingly do most of you, including Hal, when I am not confused with new facts. Just as I either accept (understand?) the present status or shield myself from its implications, I wander into new ways of looking at things and I fall off the wagon again.

Don,
Sounds like the two of us are thinking along the same lines.
Hal
