That if the posterior leaflet problem is correctable (and so far as I am concerned this is virtually always in degenerative disease) it is not appropriate to put a rigid baffle in its place. I also believe that most would be valve repair surgeons can be taught to repair posterior leaflet pathology.  With goretex chordae the correction of most anterior leaflet pathology also becomes possible. I therefor see no need for this device.
By the way Lillehei's first technique for fixing mitral insufficiency with posterior pathology was to place a compressed ivalon baffle inside the posterior leaflet. This was done without annular narrowing. These were rheumatic cases. When I joined Chris  he was doing these.
