Hal
> About a year ago, I had the privilege of seeing Lang Lang in Carnegie Hall.?
I envy you, Hal. I missed Lang Lang's concert in Carnegie.(and really wanted
to be there.)
> He started with a Mozart sonata and finished with Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody.?
> Though only about 24, he has an emotional breadth way beyond his years.?
Instead, I did buy a CD for that program at Tower Record in NYC, when I
visited NY and Philadelphia for AATS2006. I can tell that he is amazing even
with CD.
About a Mozart sonata in C major, I lately enjoy listening contrasting
different performances between Lang Lang and Yundi Li. Both are talented,
ambitious emerging Chinese pianists. I am expecting long time rivals of two
different talents in future, just like the relation between Rubinstein and
Horowitz!
> My favorite living performer is Ivgeney Kissin.?
I was at Evgeney Kissin's North American Debut concert at Carnegie Hall in
1990s. That was the most impressed live performance ever in my life, so far!
> My all time favorite is Artur Rubinstein.? His version of the Apassionata
> has moistened my eyes on occasion.?
Hmmm, His humane touch...really something! My favorite version of
Apassionata is by Sviatoslav Richter. He had possessed his own universe!
> I believe the greatest performer of Bach and Mozart was the late Glenn Gould.
Nobody can beat Glenn Gould. Personally I like Andoras Schiff of Bach. Bach
concerto Nr1 is my favorite among many performances.
These all are music that I listen to in my OR.
Hal, I found another "infinity" in this music talk, besides my ignorance.
Cheers
