Acute AI is a critically time dependent destroyer of ventricles. Results  are 
great when you operate on the day of the tear. With each succeeding day the  
venticular damage gets worse and worse. There is a point after which 
ventricular  recovery does not occur. I know of no way other way, at the present state  
of knowledge,  to find out whether your patient's heart has reached that  
point except to try. You tried.
