[HSF] "Patients don't want cardiopulmonary bypass" - the great con

In addition to this article I have also some other 50-60 articles on this
subject. The fact is good surgeons get excellent results, on pump or off. I
think we should all use this debate to examine our own results and the
choose the best technique that works for you.

Bill Clinton, Larry King of CNN and David Letterman all had on-pump CABG.
In fact some years ago David Letterman's surgeon presented a short video
clip at STS showing Letterman making fun of off-pump guys!

Most teaching and well known clinics in US do not do off-pumps. So if the
rich and famous go to these hospitals, presumably they all have on-pump
CABGs.

Thanks for this citation, Dr. Damle. There was also a recent article to this
effect in a nursing journal...but I have not been able to dig it up. I'm 54
and have not been on pump. :)

If one studied the general population of the age of the typical CABG
patient, would one find a slight decline in cognitive function over 3 years?

My husband had CABG when he was 48, went back to work as a school
administrator, learned how to play the guitar, and he's always the one
coming up with the many names or titles of various people and events that
*I* can't remember.

Is it known whether David Letterman or Bill Clinton had on- or off pump
CABG?

Gabi
