Latest in suing - X Ray exposure wrt 64 slice CT scanning.
We had a discussion in CCM-List

Prassanna,
Can you elaborate. I have been involved in CT imaging for years and am
amazed and dismayed by the whirlwind of excitement for the 64 slice scanner.
I was informed just today that last month 1200 scan were done on the 64
slice machine at our hospital. This is a general use machine with cardiology
having it's own 64 slice machine separately so this doesn't even include what
may be appropriate CTA's. I can't believe that but a few couldn't have been
done equally well on a 16 or even 4 slice machine with much less radiation
exposure. It seems someone has completely lost perspective of the bigger picture
and has completely lost respect for the radiation exposure of these
machines. I'm not sure who decides which machine to schedule studies on but undoubte
dly considerations of reimbursement and throughput have superceded a more
responsible policy of which machine to use.

                  Ed
