  When I told Lawrie that he was mistaken if he thought the majority  of 
patient's left the OR with mild MR when using Carpentier's techniques, he got  
pretty indignant.  He told me that I better listen to him and do it his  way, or 
I was in danger of losing my mitral practice.  (Yawn!)  I told  him I wasn't 
too worried about it.  
  I did tell him that like him, I generally don't resect that often  
nowadays.  However, I think he really made himself look small by directly  attacking 
such a giant in our field.
