Hal:
You brought the subject of TRT so it is only fair to ask you. I took the
liberty of looking at the literature the reports that I found speak of its
use to ward off Contrast Induced Nephropathy or CIN as they call it. I could
not find reports on the use of TRT in OR setting like you did. How did you
get the idea? And how often have you used it?
Can you please tell me about any references to look up? How successful is it
in preventing post op renal impairment in terms of percentage? I am sorry
for the so many questions I posed but I am planning to brief the group about
it and I want to be familiar with the subject you get my point. Thank you
for your help
Ahmed

Ed,
I agree that trying to ameliorate the CPB-induced inflammatory response
would likely lessen organ dysfunction. One drug I've seen used, presumably
for
this purpose, is allopurinol. I don't know if it really works. Does
anyone
have literature or an opinion?
In the meantime, until we get better agents to blunt this effect, then
TRT
sounds like it may be a very useful adjunct in decreasing the incideence of
ATN. Obviously, we need more data.
Hal
