Prostacyclin does not prevent antibodies forming / resistance developing, obviously. The reasons why we use it are its short half-life (epoprostenol 6 minutes) and the complete inhibition of the heparin-dependent platelet aggregation induced by HIT-II. That way you can use heparin "safely". 

Of course we'd prefer not to use heparin. The thing is that neither bivalirudin nor ECT & TAS Analyzer are available here. In addition, "our" protocol seems to be safe and effective.
