I've used Cardionyl for several years on my mitral repairs. It is a permanent monofilament like Prolene. However, it is much softer, slightly stretchable, no memory, and requires only 4-5 throws for a secure knot. This knot won't abraid valvular tissue for which Prolene is notorious. Because of its expense, I don't use it except for mitral repairs.
