Bob,
  Cardionyl is a permanent monofilament that looks a lot like  Prolene.  
However, it is much more supple with no memory.  It's cut  ends are not sharp like 
Prolene, and thus less likely to produce local abrasions  of delicate valve 
tissue.  You also only need 4-5 knots to make it  secure.  In addition, when 
you pull it, it slightly reversibly stretches  before it will break.  I began 
using it after seeing Carpentier use it at  his meetings.
