Dear Aijt Damle:

We use primarily autologous non-treated pericardium in all cases without significant pulmonary hypertension. The endo pericardium faces the LA, and be sure to clean the outside well of all fat, etc. We have used Goretex in those patients with PA hypertension, as we perform the double patch flap valve procedure and Goretex works well because of its' stiffness. Be sure the patch is not excessive or to small, either can lead to problems with autologous pericardium.

I would like recommendations for closure of a large secundum ASD in a 35 yr
healthy female. PCI is not possible the defect is very high, near the sinus
of valsava and does not have enough superior rim.

What is your experience with autologus pericardium, bovine pericardium and
patch material like GoreTex or Dacron?

Thanks!

Aijt Damle
