Do you have similar opinions on the newer generation valves vs the Mitroflow or older Edwards and against each other?

Around 1980 we tested four valves pericardial valves?in our lab. We needed a replacement for the Ionescu which we had shown to be subject to abrasion wear.?The Edwards pericardial and the Mitroflow had the best durability. The Edwards seemed slightly better and we chose it for the aortic position, but not for the mitral position.
The hemodynamic performance?of the two valves was similar?.We started the clinical?trial of the Edwards with several other institutions and when that was finished, started a trial with the Mitroflow. After 31 cases the Mitroflow company had to discontinue for commercial/financial reasons and they moved to Canada. After more than 20 years they are finally getting back to the USA.
As we predicted the durability seems to be similar to the Edwards. In our view the hemodynamics of both were good but we routinely enlarged the root for sizes 19 and 21 in order to be sure we did not leave patients with gradients that might not allow optimal relief of the load on the left ventricle. We started this long before the infelicitous term "Patient Prosthesis Mismatch" was invented.
Ani I wonder if you are thinking of the Duraflow when you say the Mitroflow had no struts? The struts are actually quite tall, very similar to the Edwards,
Bob

Just wonder if anybody have experience with Mitroflow aortic valve made by

Thanks!
