Dave,
  Thanks for the reply.  Whether or not you can abort brewing  mediastinitis 
with IV antibiotics alone is subject to debate.  Obviously,  the only way to 
answer that question would be to randomize patients with high  CRP's to 
antibiotics versus placebo, and then see if there is a significant  difference in the 
incidence of mediastinitis.
