Perhaps off pump pericardiectomy is merely an anachronism, Bob. My guess, however, is that on pump CABG is the true anachronism for exactly the reasons that you propose.

Ani,
When I started doing constrictive pericarditis  cases it was a  logistic 
advantage not to use bypass. It really was not difficult  to  do these cases with 
minimal risk and excellent hemodynamic improvement.  As  our facilities 
improved there was plenty of good documentation to encourage a  continuation of the 
practice.
