[HSF] endocarditis and AIDS

John,
  I've done plenty of SBE valves on patients who are HIV  positive.  However, 
with full blown AIDS, I'm not sure the patient is a  reasonable surgical 
candidate.  The question the ID doc should answer is  the length of time the 
patient would be expected to survive with AIDS and no  SBE.  If it's truly only a 
few months, then I would decline.
