We will not go away completely, Roberto. They still need us to salvage the "inoperable" non invasive case that crashes. And that is not funny.

Really funny, Bob.#
Today Prof sculer and the cardiology team scheduled 3 corevalve cases,
transfemoral and without intubation. Do you see that if surgeons want to
remain working, they have to change? There were there many cardiologists
looking at, wanting to reproduce it, and so on.
May be our classical surgeons will have no more work in 10-20 years, and the
cardiologists are going to perform corevalve and 3 stents instead of AVR and
3 bypasses, even they may have worse results, because that’s "non invasive".
I wrote this for our cardiac surgeons in the 40´s.

When surgeons implanted a new valve many years ago had they also idea
of
valve survival?.
They certainly did. We wanted the valve to lasr for the life expectancy of
the patient.
At the first conference in 1960 I made the statement "The valve must last
for the life of the patient"
The cynics laughed and said "You will have no problem meeting that
requirement: when your valve breaks the patient will die".
