I had a patient, middle aged man, who had unevenful CABG and had right vocal
cord paralysis postoperativel. His hoarseness was pronounced and no one,
family or staff, had noticed it preop. His right inernal mammary artery was not
dissected, his right pleural cavity was not opened. He had a right IJ line
placed. My theory is that the right vagus nerve was implaled by the needle and the
fibers destined to become the recurrent nerve were therby injured. John Flege
