I don't doubt you, but it is not the current fascination. Dr. Matheny who has worked with the matrix as a patch for a decade tells stories where where he has been asked to stop in the middle of his presentation because it did not fit with current bias.

Tea , it is not retrograde thinking. This was attempted for years and matrix
seeding has been repeatedly attempted historically. We just seem to be
getting better at it.I think it was Medawar who actually though about it
first.(I am a bit fuzzy about that)
