Crista refers to Crista Terminalis.
The 3 cm was derived from the work of Allesae and Moe which Cox
expaneded upon. 3 Cm is the value derived form atrial conduction
velocity and EP studies. It is in Cox's review of the maze procedure
in the Advances in Cardiac surgery (I think 7th Edition) .One of the
reasons for early Afib post cardiac surgery is due to alteration of
the velocity of conduction due to CPB.
A wave velocity above 40 cms/ sec represents a fully functional LA
(Normal). Less than 10 cms is an ineffective contraction. You would
have to look through Feigenbaum's Echo text book for the normal values
etc.
