Urobag has a non-return valve where the tubing joins the bag. I have been routinely using urobag as a thoracic drainage bag (without water-seal) - whether for draining blood, effusion or air, for years. It helps me in easily keeping the patient ambulatory. The simple non-return valve in the urobag is nothing but 2 flaps of plastic strips (4 X 1.5 cms approximately), hanging from the bag inlet. In case if the pressure in the urobag increases, the 2 flaps appose tightly with each other and prevent any reverse passage of air/fluid in to the tubing.
